If there is a name in Indian politics that is respected and looked upon irrespective of the position he held or the political party he represented, then it would undoubtedly be Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Retired from active politics since 2005, we hardly hear about this man who changed the face of our nation and in turn the entire world.

Popularly recognized as the “Bheeshma Pitamaha” of Indian politics, the contribution of Mr. Vajpayee is enormous and cannot be explained in mere words. What bothers me the most is how our people tend to forget the great minds that thrived for the betterment of our very lives and move on without even bothering to look back and thank them for what they have given us by scarifying themselves.

“Any Nation that does not honor its heroes will not long endure.” This famous statement was made by Abraham Lincoln, and it’s indeed. What's happening to our country at the moment?

Here we are talking about a man, who intensely fought in the Indian independence struggle,  the man who would build a national political party and eventually go on to become the 11th prime minister of India,  The man who would set new benchmarks for noble politics by his gracious character.

He was a primordial front in the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi movement. He solidified the Hiduthva principle and inspired millions of youths to join hands in protecting the glorious culture and beliefs of our country.

Addressing the United Nations general assembly in 1997, he delivered his speech in Hindi and became the first person ever to do so.

In May 1998, India conducted five underground nuclear tests in Pokhran, Rajasthan. The five tests shocked and surprised the world, especially considering that the government had been in power for only a month. Atal Bihari Vajpayee had made India a nuclear power and immortalized our strength to defend our country from all and any possible attacks.

Mr. Vajpayee also thrived for peace between India and Pakistan and held several bilateral talks with his Pakistani counterparts. In 1999 he signed the historic “Lahore Declaration” and inaugurated the Delhi-Lahore bus service.

Pakistan responded to Mr. Vajpayee’s vision of achieving peace between the two countries by sending its troops inside the line of control and captured several Indian territories.  Mr. Vajpayee courageously answered them by ordering “Operation Vijay” popularly known as the Kargil War to clear Pakistani terrorists and military officials from Indian territories.

Amidst the high political pressure from the United Nations and other International communities to stop the operation, Atal Bihari Vajpayee declared that he would not call back Indian Military Forces until India regained its territories. Indian armed forces successfully drove the Pakistani troops out of our border and took control of its lost territories.

After the attack on the Parliament building in New Delhi, Vajpayee took bold steps to avert terrorism by introducing the prevention of the terrorism act (POTA).  He had expressed that the growing rate of terrorism was always a major threat to  India.

There is no limit for Mr. Vajpayee’s undying love for his nation. He is till date the only bachelor prime minister of India as serving his country always came first than anything else.

A.B. Vajpayee is also a great poet; his poems have influenced a lot of people and continue to do so. Vajpayee has expressed very clear thoughts about his poetry: "My poetry is a declaration of war, not an exordium to defeat. It is not the defeated soldier's drumbeat of despair, but the fighting warrior's will to win. It is not the dispirited voice of dejection but the stirring shout of victory."

Even after rising to the most powerful and highest position of the country, he lived a simple life and had only one agenda in mind, which is to work for the development of our nation and its people. To this day, he maintains very high respect from all political parties and people of India and there is almost none who hates him.
He was not just any other politician; he showed the world how to run the largest constitution there ever is and how to handle the responsibilities of leading a nation.

It’s our fond sense of duty and has to turn it into our pleasure to remember him. He was once the voice to the nation but hardly speaks these days; the truth is he doesn’t need to as his works speak for themselves.

Bottom-line is he made a difference, a very big difference.

He also banned coca-cola in india, who were mixing alcohol in their beverage to increase sales. He asked them for combination of ingredients. He must be cherished
